Using ICT effectively at Key Stage 4

The 'Using ICT effectively at Key Stage 4' series of advice sheets deals with the effective use of ICT at Key Stage 4 for teachers of modern languages. The series presents online resources which are characterised by their value and potential in the teaching and learning of languages, especially French, German and Spanish, as students prepare for GCSE.

The advice sheets are categorised as:

  • Key resources (pdf 138KB): a small group of key websites of value to teachers of all languages. In many cases, these sites offer content in more than one language and can be of use beyond the Key Stage 4 classroom.
  • Key interactive resources (pdf 126KB): a small number of sites offering interactive resources have been identified. The resources, often in more than one language, have been produced with authoring software, and are available online for other teachers to use.  The sites continue to grow as more materials are added and so constitute an ever-developing resource.
  • Language specific advice sheets: the languages covered in these documents are French, German and Spanish. The sheets deal with topics, which form part of modern language teaching and which may, for a variety of reasons, be considered hard to teach at Key Stage 4.

Research for this project was conducted in early 2008 by a team of consultants on behalf of CILT, the National Centre for Languages and ALL (Association for Language Learning). The advice, comments and references on these pages reflect content as found on the websites at that time. It is recognised that many sites worthy of inclusion in this series are to be found on the Internet and the sites dealt with in this series are not presented as unique or exhaustive.

The project was funded by BECTA during the academic year 07-08.
