Supporting teachers of languages using non-Roman scripts

Whilst not focused specifically on the use of ICT, a number of networks and initiatives have been developed to support teachers of specific languages, including many which use a non-Roman script. The SSAT offers Language Networks for teachers of Arabic, Chinese, community languages, Japanese and Russian. ALL has a Language Committee for Japanese and Russian. CILT offers support to teachers of community languages through its web pages, free Community Languages Bulletin, Curriculum Guides for Arabic, Chinese, Panjabi, Tamil and Urdu, and community languages email forum. In a number of Comenius regions, regular training events are held for teachers of community languages. The Our Languages project supports teachers of community languages with a focus on partnerships between mainstream and supplementary/complementary schools, where ICT has an obvious role to play. See the downloadable file to ensure you are taking advantage of the support available.
