Resources

Teachers of non-Roman script languages may find it hard to locate ready-made resources, either on CDROM or online. You can search the CILT library catalogue, by title or by using the Power search functions to bring up a list of commercial software titles for your language. See the downloadable file on resources for more suggestions for locating commercial software.

If you are looking for good websites or downloadable resources, there are a number of websites which offer lists of web page links collated by language. Others offer resources across a range of languages. There are also initiatives to publish materials created by teachers for download and adapting by other teachers, such as the Teacher Resource Exchange and the SSAT Language Networks. Local authority websites can also be a rich source, particularly in the field of providing support to English as an Additional Language pupils. See the downloadable file on resources for some examples.

Remember that you can also create your own resources, using images, audio and video as well as text to create a rich learning experience and develop all four language skills. For ideas to adapt for your own language, look at the Technology for languages and Useful ICT ideas, effective language lessons sections on this website.
