Using ICT effectively in MFL
A series of video case studies at 5 schools demonstrates the different ways in which teachers integrate ICT into their practice and change teaching and learning for pupils. The videos focus on the ICT that is used over a period of time to teach and consolidate language as a prelude to more ambitious, freer work with ICT in the target language. The videos and supporting commentary will be available online on the revised Languages ICT website in summer 2008.
Schools from Truro, Liverpool, the Isle of Wight, Basildon and Fareham took part and shared their experiences with ICT, ranging from interactive games and drop-down menus to digital photos, audio and video.
A small team of researchers produced the “Using ICT effectively at Key Stage 4” series of downloadable pdf documents which highlight online resources in French, German and Spanish and the ICT opportunities which these resources present for teaching and learning languages at GCSE.
The language-specific series comprises twelve advice sheets for each language, focusing on GCSE topic areas which for various reasons can be considered hard to teach. There are also separate advice sheets focusing on a number of key sites offering interactive resources and a small number of core sites which offer a wealth of opportunities for enhancing the teaching and learning of French, German, Spanish and, in some cases, other languages.
