Routes into languages
Routes into languages is an initiative to widen participation and enhance take-up of languages from KS4 to university. Universities work together with schools and colleges to promote MFL and encourage pupils to study languages at higher level.
Routes into languages has established regional consortia and is funding projects, some of which include the use of ICT in several ways, for example:
- The construction of a web portal to link language learners in a variety of innovative ways
- E-mentoring schemes
- Email Buddying
- Log onto Languages: A Programme of on-line assisted language learning and support
- Web-Based Resources: Resources to support G.C.S.E and A level students of Modern Languages
• Blogs, podcasts and video diary competitions
• Video conferencing
From Routes into Languages you can link to LAFTAS (Languages and Film Talent Awards), a Digital Video competition organised by CILT. It involves creating a two minute video clip that presents the most convincing case for being able to speak more than one language.
Prizes for the winning entries include a video camera, trips abroad and other goodies. Winning clips will be screened in prestigious London venues and will become part of CILT’s Languages Work online resources.
