The idea of this section of the website is to keep you up to date with any new developments in the field of ICT and MFL. Trying to find the relevant piece of information on the net can be a frustrating and time-consuming activity. Hopefully, here you should be able to find what you are looking for quickly and easily. You can read about new Government initiatives, CPD training opportunities and where you can get support and download documents on what you are interested in. There is helpful information for all MFL teachers from primary to further education, although news for secondary school colleagues is usually prevalent due to the current government focus on this sector. Welcome to ICT news update.

CILT launches new Primary Languages website
The recent decision to extend compulsory languages into KS2 by 2010 has led to an increased need for training, and CILT and the DfES have produced an online training resource to support all those involved. The CPD materials come in a variety of formats, including video, audio and a searchable library. There is material to take schools through introducing languages, embedding a structured curriculum, using creative activities for all skills (with and without the use of ICT) and assessing and improving progression. There is a wealth of material and support here for all involved in the process, from teaching assistants to governors, and in a variety of languages.

Lord Dearing’s Languages Review
Findings from Lord Dearing’s Languages Review were published recently and technology was highlighted as an important way of inspiring students, enabling them to use their languages in real situations and to become more autonomous in their learning. The importance of video-conferencing and e-twinning was identified, as well as suggestions for using ICT to facilitate distance learning. The need for continued staff training is acknowledged as students are more familiar than their teachers with these technologies.
