Becta services offer their latest advice
The summer and final edition of the ICT in Secondary e-magazine … focus on MFL is available online and includes the following features:
- Using the Internet for real language activities: Making the most of foreign language websites
- World-class Resources: Help with embedding ICT and support for French
- Events: Details of this year's European Day of Languages
The Primary version of the magazine contains these items:
- Articles: ‘Using ICT to improve language and numeracy’ and ‘Using ICT to support speaking and listening with young EAL learners’
- Reviews: The Voyage website
- Events: Developing Primary Languages
In May, a panel of experts took part in the Ask an Expert spotlight month from Becta, which offered advice on the topic ICT activities, resources and approaches for inclusive MFL teaching.
Questions included:
- I have dyslexic pupils in several of my classes. Is there anything I can do easily to support them when making a presentation on screen?
- How can I include learners of English as an additional language in MFL, through the use of ICT?
- Have you any examples of good practice in ICT with gifted and talented linguists?
- Do you have any suggestions for using ICT to help kids with severe language impairment (understanding, processing, responding)?
Full archives of the discussions on these and other topics, plus background information on the issues involved in inclusive teaching can be found on the recently launched Becta Schools website.
Becta has streamlined its Secondary and Primary web support into the new Becta Schools website, aiming at ‘fewer but better targeted websites and electronic publications'. It will no longer offer the Focus ICT in Secondary e-magazines and Ask a Question services from the autumn term 2006, but archives for these services will stay live until end December. The location of the Becta Research web pages has also changed.
