TeachNet UK

TeachNet UK is a programme which has been set up by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, in partnership with the Teachers Network Organisation in the USA and TeachNet Ireland. It is designed to provide classroom teachers the opportunity to organise a practical project for their own pupils lasting 4-5 hours, which uses ICT in their subject. If accepted for publication, this project can then earn the authors £450 and can be shared with other colleagues around the world.

There are several languages projects from last year’s programme, which can be viewed and their resources downloaded from the TeachNet UK website. Topics included are:

  • Cultural Eating Habits
  • Bienvenue à Paris ... a virtual tour
  • Producing video in the classroom

The projects show how ICT can be used in different ways in and out of the languages classroom. Examples include:

  • MS Access to record the results of a survey on food habits
  • MS Publisher or MS Word to design a poster presenting favourite foods and drinks
  • Email to send posters and video clips to partner school in France
  • Digital video camera to film oral presentations on opinions about food and drink
  • Movie Maker to edit oral presentations
  • Internet to research a virtual tour of Paris in French and English
  • MS PowerPoint to produce a presentation on a particular monument in Paris
  • Digital video to film role-plays based on a tourist visiting Paris
  • Video editing techniques to incorporate images, text, music and subtitles into a film clip

Video clips showing examples of the project contents can be seen on the site. Accompanying resources are available for download.
