BBC Jam

The BBC will be launching an interactive learning service in January 2006 for 5-16 year olds called BBC Jam. The new public service will be delivered over broadband and will continue to roll out until September 2008.

Liz Cleaver, Controller of Learning and Interactive, said:

“This is the most significant new learning service from the BBC and I hope it will really appeal to children. We wanted a name reflecting the spirit of the service that was lively and fun and would resonate equally well across our target audience of 5 to 16 year olds.”

BBC Jam will incorporate the latest digital technologies combining video, games, audio and animation and will try to inspire even the most reluctant learners. As the service will be online, pupils will be encouraged to use it at home as well as at school, allowing them to work at their own pace and suiting their own learning styles.

French at KS3 will be covered in the first year with other subjects being added later.
