Laptops for Teachers

The Laptops for Teachers (LfT) initiative continues. LfT is aimed at teachers in primary and secondary schools. Teachers in Sixth Form and FE colleges are not covered by this scheme.

There are changes from the previous schemes in that schools now own the laptops and allocate them to individual teachers on long-term loan. Also individual teachers are no longer required to make a contribution. This does however mean that when you move school the laptop stays with the school, not the teacher.

Each individual school can apply to take part in the scheme, but it may be more cost-effective for LEAs to organise this centrally for the schools in their area. It is the head teacher in the school who needs to assess the needs of the teachers and then allocate the available laptops accordingly. Priority is given to teachers who have not benefited from this or similar schemes in the past.

One point to note is that all teachers who receive laptops in this way need to register them on the Becta website. If you are not sure whether yours has already been registered, check with your school.
