Hands On Support (HOS)

Hands On Support (HOS) is an initiative from the DfES aimed at classroom teachers of all subjects and key stages. Its main aims are to support classroom teachers in the effective use of ICT in teaching and learning and to provide them with opportunities to share and pass on good practice. The HOS project provides funding for schools and LEAs to allow them to set up sessions where teachers in the local area can share examples of good practice. They will also be able to offer relevant, classroom based support to individuals to help them develop their skills using equipment that they have access to. For more information about the project, go to the ICT in Schools area of the DfES Teachernet website.

Two new sites National Online Network for HOS and Hands On Support Matrix have been recently launched to help schools and LEAs deliver the HOS initiative.

National Online Network for HOS
This site is provided by BECTA to support sharing of experience and good practice and includes online discussion facilities for anyone involved in the project such as teachers, school leaders, LEAs, representatives from national agencies and the DfES. Any one can browse the forum discussions but if you want to take part in a discussion you will need to register. There are also hotseats, short-themed discussions to highlight good practice and resources relevant to HOS. There are no MFL specific hotseat discussions planned for this term but themes that may be of interest are ‘HOS and the National Whiteboard Network’ and ‘Using ICT to support SEN and Inclusion’.
If you would like to receive email updates about the National Online Network, contact Hema Patel.

Hands On Support Matrix
The HOS matrix has been developed to help schools think about how to get the best out of the resources available to them.
