The Practical Support Pack - Learning and Teaching using ICT

The Practical Support Pack is an online collection of resources designed to help primary and Key Stage 3 teachers use ICT to enhance learning effectively across the curriculum.

The secondary languages section of the site features lesson plans, classroom resources and practical advice written and developed in association with CILT, The National Centre for Languages. The language modules are mapped to the Framework for teaching MFL (KS3), the National Curriculum and QCA schemes of work.

The aim of the materials is to encourage teachers to use ICT in their teaching, by highlighting how readily available and specialist software can be used to enhance learning. Examples are given of:

  • Presentation software to enhance pupils' creativity
  • Use of email to aid communication with people in other languages
  • Use of the Internet to improve and extend knowledge of the language and culture of other countries

Ideal for use as part of formal or informal professional development, these resources can be used independently or with colleagues. You can download a module resource pack containing lesson plans, resources, supplementary information and extension activities, for teaching French, German and Spanish using ICT.

Video case studies, including practical examples of teachers using ICT with their classes, also appear on the site and include the following topics:

  • Creative writing skills in French
  • Reviewing the perfect tense in French
  • Expressing preferences and opinions in Spanish
  • Preparing and delivering presentations in Spanish
  • Reviewing present tense verbs in German
  • Developing reading skills in German

You can choose which video format you want to use when watching each clip, depending on the speed of your Internet connection. The faster the speed, the better the quality of the clip will be.
